The Merchandise

Post by SomeGuyInaSuit on Mon Sep 03, 2012 7:17 pm

I'm so sad... I've been dreaming of going to Akihabara, for one major reason, of going to the Gamerz store and flooding myself with the DGC products. But according to someone I know from my DGC group, Broccoli has discontinued DGC character products and Gamerz have stopped carrying them. So it's not unpleasant to now know about this, but where would the new home of DGC be now? At the same time, I'm hoping one day to bring back everything, maybe even take over Broccoli and remake DGC products and services, and maybe hold auditions to continue the DUB for the Original Specials.

Still I'd like to see Gamers back in the states, and the Original Series continue production... 😢

I didn't know they stopped carrying DGC stuff at Gamers. That sucks. Oh well, I still plan on moving to Japan anyway, so hopefully there'll be merch at thrift stores or something. The only DGC merch I have are 5 UFO plushes, the Complete 2002 book, and the Panyo Panyo Character Songs CD. I want more, damn it!

Though, to be honest, I didn't like the dub of the original series (the only I dub liked was LITP), though it would be convenient for those who don't want to read subtitles or who are blind. :/

(moving this thread so we can talk about all merch in general, not just original series merch.)

That is depressing to hear, considering Di Gi Charat was their poster child for so long. I guess at the same time, the most that Koge Donbo has done with the series lately has been drawing small leaflets for telephone cards. Kinda sad that the show petered out.
I do own a decent amount of merch, though, mainly DVDs. I own the entire PPDGC series on DVD, the original series on DVD, along with a bonus audio CD that came with it. I have 2 DGC manga (Dejiko's Summer Vacation and DGC vol. 3 [The Black Gema Gema Gang volume]), and I own the first 2 volumes of Nyo! on DVD.

Yeah, but, hey! It lasted from 1999 to 2006, that's pretty good. Like I said, you'd probably be able to get stuff in Japanese thrift stores, which is likely what I'll do once I move there 15 years from now.

True. But I'll probably try and visit Japan eventually when I get older, but I plan on living in Vancouver.
Aside from that, we are stuck to reading Kamichama Karin. But seriously, that series is actually pretty good. It's just not Di Gi Charat.

Yeah, I like all of Koge-Donbo's work, At least what I've seen/read so far. I read all of Kamichama Karin Chu and the last volume made me cry. I also have the first volume of Pavane for a Dead Girl. Can't find volume two anywhere. I'm wondering if they even translated volume two.

Her work is kind of under appreciated outside of Japan, I think. Probably just didn't sell enough in the first volume to warrant a continued translation.
I'm just waiting for an actual legitimate non-fan translation of Deadman Wonderland. I WANT IT NOW.

I just found out why volume two of Pavane for a Dead Girl was never released in English. The company that translates and publishes it in the U.S., Tokyopop, went bankrupt. Well, now I need to get fluent in Japanese quicker so I can get it imported from Japan to know what happens next. :/
